Our Beliefs

As a Southern Baptist church, we recognize the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as our statement of beliefs, and are affliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, and Illinois Baptists.

Our Statement of Faith

  • The Bible is the authoritative Word of God. It is God inspired and 100 percent truth. (Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16)
  • God is eternal and equal in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19)
  • Jesus was God in the flesh; completely God and completely man. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for our sins. Three days after His crucifixition, He rose from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father; and He will return again. (Isaiah 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1,14; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 2:5, 3:16)
  • Jesus is the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18, 23-25; Luke 1:27-35)
  • Jesus was raised from the dead three days after His death and ascended to the right hand of the Father. (John 2:19-21, 20:26-28 Romans 8:34)
  • Man was created in the image of God but sinned in the Garden of Eden. Consequently, we are all lost and sinful, and our only hope for redemption is in Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21)
  • To know God, is to know Christ and to follow His ways. (John 6:44, 65)
  • Man is saved by grace alone, not by good works, but through a personal faith in and relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation is a result of repentance of our sins. Repentance is the commitment to turn away from all sin and to follow Jesus. (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 3:19; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:22)
  • The Holy Spirit has all the divine characteristics of God and dwells in all believers. (Romans 1:11; Hebrews 2:4; 1 Peter 4:10)
  • The church is representative of Jesus on earth and is to carry out the Great Commission. Every person who is born again is a member of the universal church is to be a part of the local church. (Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; John 17:11)
  • The church has two ordinances command by Jesus – baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper.
    • Baptism: a symbol of death, burial and resurrection of Christ and the new life that we have in Him. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38)
    • The Lord’s Supper: a time to reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and to prepare for His return. (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 10:16)
  • Heaven is the eternal home for all believers of Jesus Christ. After death, we will be judged by God and sent to either Heaven and Hell according to our faith in Him. (Matthew 5:12, 25:34,41; Hebrews 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4; Revelation 20:12-15, 21:8)
  • Jesus will return to earth at an undisclosed date to establish His kingdom. (Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 1:7)
